Lyle Center for Digital and Human-Augmented Manufacturing debuting this spring
SMU’s Lyle School of Engineering is kicking off operations in the new Center for Digital and Human-Augmented Manufacturing (CDHAM), a 5,000-square-foot research facility in Embrey Engineering Building. The center’s purpose is combining digital twin technology, augmented reality, robotics and AI to improve manufacturing efficiency, raise employee productivity and bolster workforce development.
Led by Adel Alaeddini, Lyle’s new executive director for research innovation, and Chris Colaw, the school’s executive director for industrial partnerships, CDHAM provides companies opportunities for research collaborations with Lyle faculty and students in the Industry 4.0 space, sparking innovation in fields such as telecommunications, aerospace and transportation.
CDHAM’s grand opening is slated for the beginning of the 2024–2025 academic year, in late August. Meanwhile, several companies have already joined the center as industry members – Lockheed Martin, GKN Aerospace, ESAB and iQ3 Connect – with more on the horizon.
Corporate engagement with CDHAM can include research and pedagogy as well as philanthropic support, such as equipment donations of sensors, IoT devices, 3D scanners, computer hardware and software, and networking equipment.
Please let us know if you would like introductions to the new CDHAM to learn more about the center’s vision, initiatives and partnerships.
Inaugural Human Trafficking Data Conference scheduled for June
An interdisciplinary team of SMU faculty, data scientists and students will hold the University’s first-ever conference on human trafficking data in early June. Sponsored by Thomson Reuters, the conference will bring together researchers, practitioners, law enforcement officials, governmental officials and other stakeholders who value the quality, availability and efficacy of human trafficking data. Held on SMU’s campus in our new Frances Anne Moody Hall on June 3 and 4, the conference theme mirrors the Human Trafficking Data Research Project’s mission: Make Human Trafficking Data Work. The conference offers attendees access to experts in different areas of human trafficking data, breakout sessions to focus on specific aspects of human trafficking data, and networking opportunities for future collaboration. This event will be a vital opportunity for networking, collaboration and information sharing as diverse groups come together to combat the challenges of human trafficking. Please let us know if your employer would like to join Thomson Reuters as a sponsor in 2025.
